Why Widgets Slow Down Your Phone

So, what is a widget and what why would they slow down Android, and the performance of your phone? Well, think of widgets as “mini” applications that can be accessed from the Home screen; and that run on the in the background, waiting for you interact with them.

Now why would that cause my phone to become sluggish?

1) Well, first of all the fact that the widget (application) is running all the time in the background does number on the battery and the processor of the phone. Batteries hate nothing more than running a widget for 9 hours that no one is using.

2) Secondly, for some odd reason, people go widget crazy – putting 5, 10, even 15 widget on their home screen. With limited memory and a processor design to make calls (and not to run 20 widgets for hours on end) the more midgets the more work the processor has to do.

3) The last reason that widgets may make you phone sluggish had more to do with poor programming than anything else. Put simply, some widgets are resource “hogs”.

Solution(s)

1) Install a Killbot application that will allow you to “kill” rouge applications that need to be reigned in.

2) Three widget is plenty, and be selective on which widgets you absolutely need.
